Dentures can be a welcome addition to physical good health. Losing teeth and having to wear dentures is an unnecessary fear that people have as they grow older.

With age, the body changes and dental health can play a large role in physical well-being. Being happy wearing dentures is a matter of attitude. When the pain or discomfort becomes great, change is usually accepted. Modern day dentistry allows for the most natural look in new dentures.

Dental Health

Bad teeth and infected gums can cause extreme physical illness without a person knowing the problem. Infection releases poison slowly over a period of time and will reduce the body’s immune system. Teeth and gums that have extreme sensitivity to hot and cold make drinking and eating a miserable experience. Once the source of infection is removed, the body can begin to heal.

Eat What You Want

Denture wearers can eat almost anything they want to eat. Unlike teeth, dentures are not sensitive to hot or cold and extreme temperatures will cause no pain. Food cut in two equal portions and inserted into the mouth will give balance to the chewing process. With a little patience and practice, even meats and salads can be consumed with ease.

In the beginning, care must be taken to prevent bruising of the gums as bruises are extremely painful and take some time to heal.

Say Goodbye to Scheduled Dental Visits

Not needing regular dental visits, with cavity fillings, root canals and expensive crowns, is the very best part of having dentures! Paying a lot of money to have a dentist practice medieval torture in the mouth will be a thing of the past.

Dental Adhesives are not Necessary

Once the dentures are made, returning for adjustments is necessary. Sometimes four or five visits are needed. Once properly adjusted, there is no need for denture adhesives. Many people fail to return for adjustments and as a result bemoan the fact of pain and resort to adhesives or worse, will not wear the dentures at all. Properly fitting dentures require no adhesives and are not painful.

Every five to seven years a visit to the dentist to evaluate fit is recommended. Sometimes a relining is required as bone structure changes over time.

Relearning Speech

Learning to speak with new dentures is not difficult. Once the dentures are in place, sing the children’s “A,B,C” song. Within a couple of days, speech will be normal and syllables will be correct. Any time the dentures are changed or relined, this process should be repeated. A slight change in fit can make a major difference in feel and sound.

Dentures can become one of the best things a person can do for themselves. With a little patience and some practice, living with a denture will be a lot more attractive and much healthier than before. For additional information and answers to any questions visit here.
